MASTERS OF LIGHT

While the Photography Editor at Texas Highways Magazine, it became clear to me the vast majority of photographers did not understand how to use natural light or artificial light in unique ways. Most the images that came across my desk all looked alike. When someone showed up with a unique approach to lighting, it stood out. When we entered certain stories into national competitions, it was almost always the stories with masterful and unique approaches to lighting that won the awards for the magazine. Well, that and the case of steaks we sent the judges:) This workshop is designed to take your photographic eye to a whole new level. You will become the master of your lighting no matter what time of day it is or the conditions. Ok, you got me, it might not work during a cat 5 hurricane. One thing for sure though, Your portraits and images will likely stand out above the rest. Mainly because you will learn things never taught at any workshop before.

CHASING THE LIGHT

Led by Joe Baraban, one of the true legendary "Masters" in Advertising/Corporate Photography! Over the years National Geographic Magazine, Life Magazine, Texas Monthly Magazine, Coca Cola, Cessna, Range Rover and Jaguar have used Joe for several assignments. To add to this Joe is also a member of Fuji Film's Talent Team...no small honor! In this workshop photographers will learn to develop their "eye" by learning to incorporate texture, pattern and form, three basic elements of design into imagery. Among other things Joe will also teach you a key to his photography, using the angle of incidence in directing a light source to the subject. This is easy to learn and will become an intregal part of your photographic thought process. You will know where a shadow falls or the sun sets days and weeks before an important shoot.

WILD @ HEART

Led by award winning photographer Sean Fitzgerald. Spend the weekend with Sean at the Texas Hill Country's premier wildlife photography ranch, Los Madrones. Los Madrones boast 400 acres of bluffs, creeks, pastures and hilltop vistas that stretch past the Colorado River. Sean has been published in many travel and wildlife magazines and has won many awards for his unique and stunning photos of many kinds of wildlife. Student photographers will learn on location in the field great secrets of shooting wildlife. Very limited seating!

THE COLOR OF LIGHT

Led by internationally acclaimed photographer Arthur Meyerson! This amazing 5 day workshop will strengthen your ability to see and work in color. Personally my work has been influenced through the years by several photographers and one of them is Arthur. We at TPW have observed major changes in the photographs of those students who attended his workshop last spring. This is the second time Arthur has offered this class with TPW and is a rare opportunity to learn from such a great photographer who was personally mentored by the father of color photography Ernst Haas. COL will not be your typical "Shoot in the morning and evening" workshop. He will lead you through the incredible beauty of the Texas Hill Country while guiding you in applying your unique vision of the world to develop and refine an individual style for creative fulfillment and professional success. Each student photographer will leave at the end of the week with a greater awareness of their personal vision, strengths & weaknesses, and an enhanced sensitivity in capturing the "Decisive Moment" in color!

SHOOTING WILDFLOWERS

The moon and stars have lined up to give us the rain we needed for what is going to be the best wildflower season in a million years. According to all the predictions this spring should be very exciting for wildflower shooters. Former Texas Highways Magazine Picture Editor Kevin Vandivier will be leading and teaching photographers how to shoot the dream wildflower shot. Why waste another great year trying to do it on your own...It's time to get professional help!

Taking this class (Masters of Light) with Kevin was wonderful. I finally felt like someone was willing to remove the veil of secrecy from lighting and just show you how to do one thing and do it well in ...english. He never tried to make it seem like something only certain people could do. First he demonstrated the technique, and then we got some time to practice before we went out and found someone in the area to try the technique out on. Practical experience, and he was always there to help if we needed him.

Above all else though, he actually said that if we ever needed help with what we learned in the workshop we could just ask and he would help. No other instructor at a workshop has ever offered this, and I think it's because Kevin really loves photography, and he wants to share his knowledge and skills with others, and really help them.

I highly recommend taking a workshop with Kevin. You won't regret it. Take notes!
